To get a horse? I've tried talking, and everything. My parents keep finding lame excueses. We have land, we have money to board, or I and they told me I'm old enough!
Whats going on and how to I get them convinced. I know horses take alot of money and I won't settle for a goldfish. I've had Goldfish and my grandmaw knows I've wanted a horse for alomst 13 years!

That's a tough one! Horses are expensive! It would be nice if you had mentioned what the "lame excuses" your parents are giving you.

You are going to have to approach this with a lot of maturity. You cant cry or throw a tantrum.

Write down all Pros and Cons of having a horse. Offer to get a part time job if you are old enough to work to help for some of the costs.

Give them examples of things you have done that will show them that you will take the responsibility.

I'll tell you how, I'm a parent and grandparent! Go and volunteer at the nearest stable, work with the horses, volunteer at your local Vet's office, look for a vet that does "large" animals - show your parents your keen interest, do this for about 6-months. Invite your parents to come watch what you do. Get them to drive you so you've got their undivided attention ... Persistent whining won't get you anywhere. Bottom line, get a part-time job, buy your own horse and pay for the boarding yourself, by working off your horses board at the stable. A good place to start looking is at the Track, trots, or flats. If your lucky enough to get a job there, your parents will come for sure - even if they aren't the betting kind...

I know absolutely nothing about horses, but I did raise a couple of teenagers. My suggestion would be to prove how serious you are by getting a job (?) or volunteering at a stable or track or something. Get into the horse world and show that you are capable of caring for a horse.

I don't think you're going to win this one. Your parents may have valid points in their lame excuses. Horses require tons of care, twice daily grooming, hotwalking, tons of feed per year. Not to mention warm dry stables to sleep in, and someone has to clean those stables and the horses poop...Are you going to clean up his clunkers? What about shoeing the horse. Who is going to take care of it when you move away from home? Who is going to take care of it when you or your parents go on vaccation? why don't you start with something smaller like a dog? you can't ride them, but they're just as much responsiblity, and less money. maybe if you prove to your parents that you're a responsible pet owner they'll cave and spend the thousands of dollars it takes to keep a horse

So..... You're not old enough to get a job? Try working for your parents and earn some money. Show them you ARE responsible. Save your money. Ask them if they would buy the horse that you would care for it & buy it's suplies. It will be hard.... just show them your responsible and you CAN take care of a hores. Ask them to give you a chance. But you HAVE to stay calm and not argue to much. Good luck. I hope you can get one.
