You are the daughter, not the mother.

Your mom won't let you wear make-up and good for her.

Try participating WITH her to put it on - show her how to do it and how much is TOO MUCH - be an example. If you are all glossed up with neon colors she is going to want the same thing. Try getting some muted colors for young girls.

Try negotiating with her - maybe lip gloss is okay now - then next year add a few things. Let her earn the right to wear it by achieving something (like: not breaking the agreement you make with her now will get her something additional later). You have to stick up to your end of the deal just like she does.

Mostly -- talk to her about WHY her wearing make up scares\concerns you. I mean REALLY talk to her don't just say "make up will make you look like a slut" tell her -- "it scares me for your safety that someone might misunderstand who you are if you wear too much".

Children so often just need to hear our concerns as adults - the deep concerns and not the harsh judgments The judgments are what make them bolt and go do what ever they want behind our backs. COMMUNICATE - that includes listening. Ask her why she wants to wear make up now. Find out is it pear pressure from school, are other girls giving her a bad time? Find out why this is becomming an issue - maybe make up is not the real issue - maybe it's self esteem, maybe it's peer pressure, maybe there is a boy she likes (which is a WHOLE other conversation).

Lastly, you are the parent. If you tell her something she does not want to hear - that's too bad. If you COMMUNICATE (not bark) at her you will have a much better experience. She is a teeanger and teens are hard to deal with much of the time. Take a deep breath and remember to listen before you react. Also, don't forget you are not just the partent - you are the example.

I don't think you should give in just so she won't be mad at you, you lose credibility as the authority if you do. What I suggest is that you sit down with her and have a "woman to woman" talk. Can she follow your "rules" for wearing make-up? Like a bit of shadow, mascara and lip gloss in natural colors shouldn't be a problem. Give her some tips. If you're not a make-up gal then I'm sure you have a friend or know someone who is and could help. It's really hard to lets kids grow up and we don't want to let them do it too quickly, but on the other hand, pick your battles, ya know? Good luck!

Awwwww, she gonna get mad? Whether this is the mother or daughter asking the question doesn't matter. Mom needs to know she is the mom, Daughter needs to remember Mom is in charge.

If Daughter wants to talk about why she wants to wear makeup (like if Mom says not until you're 18 or something), they can discuss it , but Mom gets the final say.

My parents didn't let us (their four daughters) date or wear makeup until we were 16. We thought it was terrible at the time. It turns out, they just wanted us to enjoy being kids. Being a grownup isn't always all it is cracked up to be, and you definitely can't go back to being a kid again.

Kids always seem to think they can control their parents by telling them they are going to get mad. At my house, it only makes the no last longer!

Oh, well! Let her get mad!! Sometimes life isn't fair...she better learn that now rather than later...
And yeah, she is too young to be wearing make up. She should wait until she's at least 14 or 15 years old. You are her mother. Not her friend. She's going to get mad at you sometimes, but she will get over it eventually. You do what's best for her not what she wants necessarily. She will understand that when she's older. I'm just glad I don't have any girls!!!!! lol

yes, u must let her wear makeup. however, it is best that u help her wear it since she doesn't have much idea about the technique. don't overdo it...for juniors a different makeup art is used. for instance, she can wear light eye shadows around her eyes, but not eyeliner. then she can go with a little light colored blushon. remember the makeup should not be too visible. otherwise she will end up looking like a wannabe adult!
don't be too strict with her...be her friend. if she thinks she has to wear makeup on monday then it might be for important reason. have faith in your kid. she is not trying to attract any boy...as a matter of fact, sometimes little makup can make a person feel confident about herself.

hmmm.not unless you want her to walk around like a young whore, honestly show her how to put it on kids that age aren't mature enough to really know how to put on makeup, so teach her and allow her to wear some lip gloss, and mascara and very little light eyeshadow. like a pink, creamy off white, or silver nothing that'll make her look like the town ho'. I didn't start wearing makeup until I was 14 that was 6 years ago!! but I had my mom teach me. give your daughter cute little makeovers and you 2 can bond as well while doing the makeovers.

Take her out and buy her make up let her chose and you decied which color is best for her.

If you're going to let her wear it just so she won't get mad, then that's not a good choice. You have to make her aware of who is the adult and who is in charge of things.

But for 12 year olds to wear makeup. Well, that's normal now. Most 12 year olds do. She may just not want to be left out of wearing it if all of her friends do.

Let her wear lipgloss and maybe a little mascara and eyebrow pencil if her coloring is too light to be seen. Do this so she can feel good about her appearance, not because she has threatened you with getting angry. Take her to the drugstore and get her makeup there, with you, maybe get her hair cut too, let it be an enjoyable time for both of you. Let her know that this is because she is growing up, not because she acted childishly.

If you give in to her demands at 12 because she's "gonna get mad" imagine what her demands will be at 15. Tell her to get mad and that if she wants privileges, she needs to act like an adult. For now, no makeup.

Dont let her. Yes she says she will get mad but you shouldnt be pushed around like that. If you let her slip it once she is going to think she can do it with whatever problem that come up.

Wearing make up at a young age can give them bad skin in the future
