umm a normal adult dog... well dogs pant when they are hot like humans sweat when they are hot... so does dont pant as much so the heat can keep themselfs warm.
umm during reproduction i would say definatly pay attention to the mom more and when it gets colder wrap the mother in a heater blanket.... ummm the puppies i would just keep them near their mothers and below them keep a eletronic blanket that produces heat so the babies can be warm from the blanket... but make sure the babies are kept by the mother becuase they need their mom to survive.
also if none of these ideas work keep them in the warmest room and always have water near by during pregnacy. but i do most recomend the electronic heating blanket under the babies and the mom.
hope this helps,
Doctor

Dogs shouldn't be chained up outside. Plain and simple. But if you must, make sure she has a very sturdy, thick doghouse. Something well insulated. Usually the moms snuggle with the pups and body heat keeps them well. Dogs with heavy fur are built for some hard winters, but others are not. Many dogs originate from warm climates and aren;t equipped for winter storms. But seriously, think about letting the dog inside until her puppies are grown.
Friends don't chain up other friends in their back yard while it's snowing :/

Please reconsider keeping him in the garage. If you weren't willing to keep your dog in your house during the winter you really should have thought about what kind of a coat the dog you got has. Boxers do ok outside in the cold if they are running around and keeping warm that way, but not when they are being kept confined in a pen. I understand that not all dog owners who keep their dogs isolated outside and not in the house as regular members of the family are horrible inconsiderate people and that they often genuinely love their dog. But if you're going to keep an "outside" dog then you need to take things like cold winters into consideration when choosing a breed. Heaters are dangerous if left on when no one is around and are a common cause of fires in the winter, so getting one to keep him warm is a really poor plan because it literally puts his life in danger.

Let her stay inside during the rest of her pregnancy and the first 6 to 8 weeks of the puppies life. If she is not housebroken make a space in your garage or basement that can be heated in cooler months.

well what kind of dog,if it is small bring it inside if it is large leave it outside.i owned 2 wolf hybrids their winter litters did just fine. we built a huge dog house with a couple bales of straw that we busted up and put in to help keep them warm. they were great parents(both female got pregnant by a stray german shepard) while one would eat, drink and rest the other would feed both litters.
to all of those that said dont have dogs outside i say bah.ours got mad if we brought them in.dogs although domesticated over millions of years still have their ancestors instincts.dont worry about them.in matter of fact whether or not your the owner some dogs will get very viciouse if you try to touch their young.so if by accident she has them outside leave them alone.

Just make them a card board box and put lots of towels or blankets in there and put a heating pad at the bottom of the blankets on low heat. They will be fine.
My dog delivered 8 healthy toy poodle pups last Oct...All survived and healthy.

As long as the mom and puppies are INSIDE there shouldn't be much of a problem. The nesting box for the mom should be relatively spacious, lined with towels/blankets etc, and in a draft free INDOOR location.

Because dogs have fur, they stay warm. Puppies can use their mothers fur at first, but if your boyfriend has heat, that would help! Also, you can put down a furry blanket that is warm and soft!

DO YOU KEEMP THEM OUT IN THE YARD DURING WINTER?!
Why don,t you get a closet in your house for them , just during the first three weeks , after that time they'll start to walk on and exploring arround , then you'll have to worry less about them , cuse if they are outside in that age , the'll look for mama and she'll keep them warm , it looks cute , when i was a puppy mama was very good to me .
