Yes it does. 30 year old men who date 19 year olds have a problem. At 19, a girl probably thinks that is really cool - to be dating an older guy. But trust me, if he were a quality guy, he'd be dating women his own age. For me, I don't like to date older men, or younger men - I like to stay right around my age range.
Things change though as people get older - A 30 year old man dating a 19 year old is shady. A 50 year old man dating a 39 year old woman is different. As you get older, I think age matters less. It is hard to explain.

It depends what you want and your partner being emphatic and sympathetic. If there is a really big age difference you have to be very explicit communicating that to each other.
When I was 14 I deliberately sought out a much older but understanding guy to deflower me but also be my friend and mentor. I didn't want the usual shallow teen-age thing. I was very intellectual (still am, just got my PhD) I was very honest; I wasn't out to be used or to be his plaything, but neither did I wish him hung up on me, or an arrangement which would interfere with my studies. After a couple of false starts I found such a man. He was 32, a businessman who came to my city 3 or 4 times a year. The affair lasted 5 years and was absolutely perfect - everything I had dreamed. Then, at 19, at university I chose to get involved with a 49 year old, with similar parameters understood. Again, this affair was absolutely heavenly. Then, at 23, I met a fellow grad student, my age, who seemed wonderful. I thought it could be time to settle down into a love commitment with someone. It became horrendous after 2 1/2 years!
I'm now 30 and into living with a 36 year old. So far, so good.

After you reach a certain point in your life....age doesn't really matter that much. However, there are circumstances when age matters very much.
If you are 15 and you are wanting to date someone 30---age matters.
If you are 30 and you are attracted to someone 45---age doesn't matter.
It really depends on the circumstance...but I think you already know the answer to your question in your circumstance. "an excuse because someone is afraid of what others might say".

I think it does. When I was 28 I married a 49 year old man. Big difference there in years. While dating he was the best and we had a lot of fun. Marriage turned out to be quite different, he wanted to stay home and watch movies all the time and I wanted to get out and live life. So that marriage ended, probably best for both of us. I am now married to someone my age and things could not be better. Live and learn, just hate that I have a divorce under my belt at such a young age.

Common sense will tell you that it matters. I don't know what kind of difference you are talking about but ask anyone that is 30 if the are the same person when they were 20. They are going to say no. with age comes maturity which the younger person simply doesn't have no matter how much they want to pretend they are mature.

I think age is a big factor. Just look at how we grew up...older people definately have different backgrounds as far growing up. But it's seems like the more the years go on the more liberal people have gotten. So yeh there tends to be a little culture clash as far as dating someone who's significantly.

Depends on the person. Like I do think age is an important factor. I would never date a person that is younger than me or someone who is ten years or more older than me. It's just me. Other people might not mind but that's my preference and I can't change it.
