First off it's a culture difference. Second of your ignorant. People call different things different slangs or names cause that's their culture. And as for "crisps" that was made in the US so we have the right to call them chips.

LOL - we think the same thing about British food. First time I was over there, I knew about the chips (what we call fries), but crisps for what we call chips was a new one on me.
Just a difference in cultures. I always wanted to know: why do you guys eat beans with breakfast? :::shudder:::
Kidding. I envy and appreciate the history of Britain. It's beautiful over there, too.

Your speech sounds funny to us. You call the hood of a car a bonnet and an elevator a lift. Learn to appreciate the differences. Hip, hip and cheerio.

Omg you are the strange one! Yes whatever british republic you come from it is not as kewl as us. (get it U.S.) I heard Germans call their cell-phones a "handy". So we all have our little funny differnences. (Germans also translate the word "gift" directly into "poison" talk about bad postal service!)

Not as strange as Brits calling televisions 'tellys', or trucks 'lorrys', or having 'rows' instead of arguments.
It's all just cultural differences.
