My daughter is 10 months, and she keeps taking my mouse pad and runnign away laughing. I've tried giving her a time out numerous times, but that really doesn't work. Any suggestions?

She eats it, and she also knows what the word no means. She's an great kid, and this is the only thing that she's testing her limits on.

Pieces have come off, and I don't want her to choke.

I know that people are going to disagree with this but I firmly believe that the younger you start disciplining your child the better. She's not too young to begin spanking. Now that sounds harsh but I don't mean a beating. Just a few smacks on her diaper. If she has a healthy understanding of punishment for what she does wrong then she'll be much more respectful of your wishes as she gets older. You'll really regret it if she learns she can get away with things before she's even one year old. Time out is more appropriate for older children that will understand that they have to stay in their room, chair, corner, etc... without their favorite toys/activities. You see what I mean?

She is too young for discipline. Just take it from her and try to distract her with something else. She seems to think this is a game, so sit down with her a read a story or build a block tower. Or if you have to get some work done, pull out something different and interesting for her to play with (a pile of socks, pots and pans if you can stand the noise, etc.) and set her on the floor next to you.
Time-outs and spankings are not going to work on a baby.
You should save NO for the really dangerous situations, like going near the oven. That way she knows you're serious.

Buy another one, so that when she runs off with the first, you can just put the other one in it's place. When you're not using the computer put the mouse pad in a drawer where she can't get to it. She thinks it's funny that you're running after her. It's all a game to her. If you stop playing the game, she won't think it's so funny anymore and she'll stop as well. Good luck.

It's hard to discipline kids that young. Can you use the mouse without the mousepad? I'd just take the temptation away from her and you can put it back in a few weeks when she has forgotten it. Right now it's a fun game for her, but kids that age don't have long memories.

You have to be consistent in what you choose to do. If you are going to do the time out thing then you need to do it every time and just keep doing it over and over again. The same thing goes for what ever you chose to do.. the key is consistency! It will not work over night, it will probably take a few weeks before she starts to stop but eventually it will stop if you stick to it.

Get a different mouse pad and when she takes the first one away, take out the second one, and ignore her. She wants attention and if you ignore she will just get tired of it and understand that she isnt going to get any attention when she does it!

Try lightly tapping (Not slapping) her hand and sternly saying NO. This works too when they are going something dangerous...like my son tries to grab knives out of the dishwasher. Since she has bitten pieces off throw it out and get one that is made of a material that she can't bite through. Ger her some teething rings.

she too young for time out's. she's not even a year old yet. you shouldn't put your kids in time out untill there at least 2 years old.
and since she's only 10 months old. she's probably not doing it on purpouse. shes just playing. and since she has chewed some peices off, i think she's ready to start teething. you should get her one of those teething rings that you can put into the freezer.

Don't sweat it. She only wants to play with you and it's her way of saying "hey Ma, get off the computer - play with me!"
It's like when a puppy takes your slippers and hides them under the bed. Just roll with it, it's adoreably funny if you open your eyes to see it.
