Since you are still 15, i gotta tell you, just go for a Japanese car.... Once you go Japanese, you'll never even consider American or Europian cars... Jap cars never let me down and they are damn reliable.... If you can, go for a Nissan Sentra, Scion tC or xB or xA, or a Honda or a Toyota.. Even a used Japanese car can be better than a brand new Europian car... I put American cars next to Japanese... Whatever you buy, make sure to buy Japanese..

Try a KIA Sorento, they're about 20K, which is cheap for an SUV. Or a Saturn VUE, which starts around 17K -- and they have a hybrid version that may be better mileage, but a couple thousand more in price. Unfortunately, I dont think you're going to get a new small SUV cheaper than that.

You can always check out the used car section of your newspaper -- some places like dealerships charge more for used cars than an individual person would, but may certify their quality. You might also check out places like AutoNation, which are sort of big used-car shopping malls.

Good luck!

well, if you want good gas mileage, unless you're willing to shell out a few extra bucks for some sort of hybrid SUV, I'd stick with a smaller car. A toyota Yaris sounds like a good bet. Starts at $13K and has really good mileage.

My sister is 18 and thinking of purchasing one of those.

A HUMMER!!!!! Just kidding. A Jeep Cheeroke or a Honda Element might be good. A Scion Xb may also be in your sights. Cheerokes range in price, but the other 2 are between 8K and 13K in price. All get great milage.

1970 Cadillac Eldorado. Heaviest production car ever made. Not so good on gas mileage but you can run into anything and be safe.

Go to your Honda dealer, get a certified use car. A friend of mine got a 2 yo CR-V for 17K, with a new car warranty on it.

No matter how yo look at it, a Honda is your best car.
