I have been dating this girl for about 1 year and 6 months now. We do not live toghether yet but we do plan to get engaged (and eventually get married) when I can afford to buy her a ring.

Anyway, my question is who should pay for "things" in our relationship? Should it be a 50/50 thing or should I (the man) be forced to pay for "everything". Examples would be groceries, dining out, movies, etc.

well, since you all have been seeing each other for so long and has establish a true relationship it shouldn't be who pays necessarily. the both of you should feel as though you have each others back(so to speak) if you are short on money for what ever you all want to do whether it is movie or dining out she should at least offer and say "don't worry about it I am taking you out tonight and pay" she should at least offer to get groceries if she eats at your house alot...if you eat at her house alot then you should offer the same it is the point of working together for the better of the relationship

I don't neccesarily think that dating expenses should be 50/50. Say if you were in upper management and she was a student it would be more appropriate if you picked up the bulk of the expenses. Also if she was a business exec and you were a starving artist, she should be the one to pick up the majority of dating costs. But if your financial situations are similar, you should be gallant and offer to pay, but if she is a sweet lady worth marrying, she would pay just as often.

I think it should be 50/50. It's only fair. Remember, everything you are doing as a couple now is setting the stage for your married relationship later. Good luck and congrats!

I think that if the girl has any sense, she would help you pay for things you both use. If you are making dinner at your house, you should pay for the groceries, if it's at her house, she should pay.

it should be 50/50. i never understood the whole "hes the guy he should pay" thing. my man and i always split things.
if we go to the movies. hell pay for the tickets and ill pay for the food and drinks.
or hell pay for dinner one night and ill pay for it the next.

Split it! Otherwise she's just using you. If you feel forced to pay for things, and do it anyway, you're going to come across as a loser to her.

unless if you are filthy rich, then you should pay...however, since you both are working, I think 50/50 is better.

i think that you should at least offer to pay for things. i definitely don't think it's fair if you paid for everything but i think she'd love it if you offered because maybe she'll start offering after you do.
