I haven't heard anything all that new on the spinach scare. From what I heard, it sounds like it's mainly on spinach that was bagged by California-based company, Natural Selection Foods. This company packages food for brand names like Dole and Trader Joe's. (There are more, but I won't list them.)

As far as I know, unpackaged spinach is still okay. The source of the bad spinach is the bagging plant. By "fresh" or "cooked" they mean that regardless of if the bagged spinach is cooked (or rinsed, for that matter), it will still contain e-coli bacteria.

Luckily, most bagged spinach has been pulled off the shelves. If you have purchased bagged, spinach, you can get a refund. (The number can be found in the cnn link) To be on the safe side, you might also want to stay away from any sort of spinach, although an MSNBC article says, "health officials have not called the unbagged vegetable a problem."

Shoppers in the US have been told not to eat any kind of spinach amid an outbreak of E.coli that has killed one person and infected more than 100. I will continue to eat frozen spinach. It's safe and very tasty.
