I'm not a doctor, but I don't believe sciatica will have any effect on your baby, it's just going to make this pregnancy hell for you.
There are some things that could help. Chiropractic helps immensely during pregnancy (in my personal experience), as does massage therapy. Be sure that whoever you work with knows you are pregnant and has experience with working on pregnant women.
Acupuncture works for a number of things as well, though I've never tried it. I know others who swear by it for everything.
If you live near a massage school, you can stop by and see if they need people to practice on when they get to the point where they're studying pregnancy. They usually need women and you can get a good massage (supervised by their instructor) for about $30, instead of $100+.
If you have good health insurance they'll usually cover part of massage therapy if your doctor 'prescribes' it or refers you. Ask your OB, most will write the referral.
Good luck sweetie. It sucks to be in pain while pregnant.

Sciatica won't affect your baby unless you start taking some sort of pain med that hasn't been prescribed by a doctor. Stress can affect everything in your body, so try to relax a bit more.
As for treating sciatica, I would suggest by starting with a chiropractor. Tell them where it hurts, and when it hurts the most. A lot of times, you can alleviate the pain by a simple back adjustment. Most chiropractors have a masseuse on hand as well, take advantage of that, it'll help. An MD will prescribe something along the lines of a steriod (but probably not since you're pregnant), an NSAID which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or epidural steroid injections. If none of that helps you may have to go with surgery. Sciatica is typically caused by a herniated disc in your back. It puts pressure on the nerve and causes anywhere from mild to excruciating pain. They'll go in and remove the part of the disc that is putting pressure on the nerve. Good luck. =)
