I am getting married in June and would like some inexpensive ideas for centerpeices on the tables at the reception. I don't want to use flowers. Also, it is an outdoor, casual reception. I am in New Mexico, so ideas like using seashells probably wont work with with the surroundings!

Use a zen garden as centerpiece with square candles in the center of it.
Candles in different sizes but same shape, they look good when there's still light out and when sun goes down set a romantic mood.
A clear glass bowl with water and floating candles.
Wicker boxes of different sizes arranged in the center of the table.

Get some shallow bowls at Walmart or a crafts store and float some candles in them. Alternatively put a pillar candle in the middle of the bowl and then fill with sand or stones or glass beads or something indigenous to NM. Both options are very inexpensive and will look fabulous. Also a nice option is a tall hurricane shaped vase that you can put a pillar candle into and again surround the base of the candle with something. Good luck

I'm having an outdoor wedding next August (in a different state, obviously) and I decided that an inexpensive way to decorate the tables and still look elegant would be to use tealight candles around a large wine glass (I've purchased the wine glasses at 6 for $5.99 at Walmart) and decided that I wanted to fill the wine glass with red rose petals (since you don't want to use flowers, you could easily choose something else) and am placing a small tealight on top of the petals and lighting it. It looks really elegant and it's super inexpensive.

Good luck!

I live in NM as well, so I know what you mean. Try small inexpensive clear bowls and float some candles in it. You could even color the water to match your wedding colors, or have the water clear and the candles matching. It will be pretty and romantic as well. You could even put maybe some Ivy around the bases of the bowls to add a little color.

Congrats and good luck.

I read somewhere once --maybe in the book bridal bargains about doing a centerpiece with those glass flat marbles on mirrors with candles --that always sounded pretty to me. . .

I went to a wedding where they did candy hearts in dishes around the hall too, and other candy --kisses maybe

best of luck to you

also -check the library they might have books with some ideas for you

I just got married in July, and as my fiance and I are fairly young and do not have established careers, everything at our wedding (with the expception of my dress and the photographer) was inexpensive. Anyway, what we did was have shallow clear glass bowls (i got mine at ikea for 1.25 a piece) put a layer of pebbles in the bottom , fill it with water and add two floating candles. It was beautiful, simplistic, easy, and inexpensive. Best wishes!

Floating candles in a clear dish with the water. Will look nice with the surrounds too.

My husband and I got married last year on a small budget. We bought some mirror tiles (12") and took pictures of us while we were dating and framed them with inexpensive frames and frames we borrowed from family and friends. We topped it off with some votive candles and a swag (from beefloral.com--super cheap and nice). Good luck!

Use fresh fruits, dry leaves and roots...You can make a beautiful decoration with them...I live in Indonesia and we usually use leaves, fresh fruits and roots in decoration. Arrange leaves in a natural way (like a nest..maybe) , combine with ice sculpture/statue and fresh fruits (grape, orange, cherry, anything!!). You can carve those fruits too...You're free to decide your special theme...and choose the shape and colour you like...Use your imagination, honey. Happy Planning!
