I had myself convinced for a long time that my first car would have to be a VW bug, however now that I'm in a more hilly area where the roads get iced over in the winter, I am second guessing that.

I guess an suv or something with 4-wheel drive would be better and safer overall inany accident case.

now I wont have my license for a month or so, but I figured i would get a goal now and save up.

what I would really like in the suv area is something as bit more compact seeing as I am no superstar parker (not a bad driver, just not a good parker ^.^) and something with good mileage..

please and thank you

price range would be good too.

Get a RAV4. It's a quality compact suv by Toyota and gets good gas mileage.

Ford Escape. I have 2003 Escape and have never had any problems. Not even miner ones. Gets great gas mileage don't know per gallon but can go 350 miles on one tank, I do it eery weekend. Has more room inside than a Rav4. I have a front wheel drive, not a 4x4 and have never had any problems in snow or mud. It is acually big enough to lay the back seats down and use it to sleep in when your camping (Do it all the time). I love it and would buy another one

I have a 2000 Toyota Rav 4, and I love it. For a 4 cylinder, it's got some good power. Just hit 104,000 miles, and I've had no major repairs, all normal maintenance stuff(knocks on wood). Small, but I've hauled a lot of big stuff in it by folding the seats down. Gas mileage, I usually get about 20-25 mpg, my mom would get about 28-33 mpg though. Mine's not 4 wheel drive, but really nothing drives on ice very well. Check out Kelley Blue Book web site for price quotes/values on used ones. Toyotas IMO are actually pretty good cars(my first one) and hold their value pretty well. Newer ones are a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

Get the new Toyota Rav4. Its powerful, roomy and looks nice. You probably wont have many problems with it. Gas mileage is pretty good.

Dont get a car without 4WD or AWD.

Ford Escape. My first car was an Accent, and I have no problem parking this one. It's the best thing I've ever drove.
