SPOILER!

Atlas sided with the Titans in their war (known as the Titanomachy) against the Olympians. His brothers Prometheus, Epimetheus and Menoetius weighed the odds and betrayed the other Titans by an alliance with the Olympians. When the Titans were defeated, many of them were confined to Tartaros, but Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of the earth and hold up the heavens on his shoulders, to prevent the two from resuming their primordial embrace.

Punishment? I'm not aware that Atlas is punished in some way. What I do remember was that he was too tired to lift the globe, so he ask Perseus (son of Apollo, if I'm mistaken. My greek myth knowledge is a bit rusty now) to show him Medusa's head so he can turn into stone. Thus, he became Mt. Atlas.

About the titans. I don't know. Totally forgot about them.

Atlas was punished as a "war criminal" after his people, the Titans, lost the war against Cronos' children (Zeus, Hera, Hades, etc.). He was sentenced to hold the sky off the earth for all of eternity.

IDK about the rest of the Titans.
