Boy or Girl? Anyway, the 70's is fun to do. Shag carpet or rug, flowers, peace symbols, etc. I did my daughters room like a record shop! We painted her ceiling black and hot glued CD's all over it in a row so it created a mirror like effect. Painted the walls purple. Took records from like the 80's and hung them on the walls. We had fun doing that! We went to rummage sales and thrift stores to find old records! Then we had to buy those little CD's and connected them on fishing line to make a long strand of a room divider.

A theme for any room should be based on who you are and what you like. Consider these questions:

1) What are your favourite colours?
2) Do you have a pattern or shape that you are drawn to? (stripes, plaid, tie-dye, glitter or sequins...)
3) What do you absolutely totally hate about how your room is now? (Don't use any of these things again!)
4) What is your character? Are you calm and quiet? A social butterfly and very cheerful? All descriptive words bring colours or images to mind, so work with these.

A good trick is to bring a theme into the room with the accessories like bedding, pillows, lampshades, artwork and frames, and other stuff like that. That way if you get fed up of it in a couple of years you'll be replacing only the smaller stuff and not having to clear out the room to repaint, strip wallpaper, and that sort of thing.

I'm a teenager & I love to decorate. My room is yellow, not like bright neon yellow but not a pale boring yellow - I cant explain it lol . But I bought some really long cork boards for my walls & filled them with pictures of me & my friends . I also took poster board & made a lot of really neat collages from cut outs from magazines & have a lot of art hanging on my wall that I personally made. A lot of random things as well - they all sort of fit in together though . If you want to see some pictures just message me fallen_pixie07 on yahoo & I would be more then happy to show you some ; it might help give you some ideas .

Bottem line : Keep it random but personal ; that's what I did & I absolutley love my room ; but hey : that's just me :]

You can choose a favorite book or movie character, hobby, sport, etc and paint the walls in the colours matching your choice. Then accessorize with inexpensive pictures, posters , pennants or other objects from that theme. Choose accessories that you can remove later when you have grown up and out of that theme. Then you only have to repaint in a different colour...

I had a cork wall when I was a teenager, it was great, because I could hang posters and things really easily, and was easy to change.

Your theme is definitely up to you, but keep in mind that you will want to make it something that you will not be sick of or regret when you mature.
