Hi Shelbelle,
Myself I was in the same situation, getting denied for the major credit card companies. First, before you get a credit card, shop around as much as possible. Why? Simply because the more you look, the more chance you have of finding a better deal.
So I did some research on the web to see if there were any unbiased ratings, comparisons or reviews of credit card companies for those who've been denied. I did find one here: http://www.LendersRated.com/creditcards.htm
I hope this helps you.

Go to your local Macy's Department store, if you have no credit, you have good chances of getting a card, your credit line might only be $100, but its a great starter, it will help you alot in the future. also, don't go applying for credit left and right, this will hurt your chances of getting a card, banks dont like seeing that you apply at alot of places. also, try Chase bank,
they have alot of choices.

they start you out at $300, but again, its a great starter..
if your not getting approved there, and you livein Washington state, Oregon, Parts of California or Idaho, Go to you local Harry Ritchies Jewelry store, they can get you financing no matter what, and this will build you credit, they report every month and thier payments are cheap in most cases.
hope i helped, sorry if not.
good luck.

Get a secure credit card and build credit history for a year or so, then, most probably the same bank would offer an unsecure/regular credit card!

Colllege is a gloden opportunity to get credit cards for some reason they just give them away to students and are miserly about issuing them to anyone else. To read tips on establishing a credit history see http://www.finance-girl.blogspot.com and see the article on Building Credit from Scratch

Go into any establishment and ask the salesgirl/salesman.There are usually applications at almost every retail outlet.
Let the Visa/MasterCard people decide whether or not to give to you a credit card.
