Do I have to turn in a letter of resignation? Or can I just say I don't want to work here anymore?

I work at Kohl's Department store by the way.

No matter what you do, and no matter who you do it for, it's important to ALWAYS write a letter of resignation. Other "always" include:

Your thanks for the experience they afforded you; Your regret in leaving; AND give a minimum of two weeks notice (if it's possible to give an extended notice, this is even better).

Keep in mind this one important fact: You NEVER want to burn your bridges behind you. You never know when this employer may figure into your future in some way or other. You may go back to them at some time in the future for a part-time job during the holidays; or you may need their positive input for your next job or the one after that (this is almost a definite!)

In addition to submitting your letter of resignation, it's always advisable to ask your supervisor for a letter of recommendation. If that's not available, make certain you get copies of your annual evaluations.

Always give at least a written, two week notice. Add speaking to your supervisor/manager and thank them for the opportunity to work there.
When they ask why, simply say that you have some personal things going on and you don't want them to interfere with your work and its best to prioritize those issues at this time. You perhaps are young and the first inclination is to just leave. However, you never know if one day you'll need to come back or use this store as a reference for another job. At any rate, a resume can include this as a resource since it includes working with the public and a variety of supervisors. Make sure that you do in fact want to terminate your employment before doing so. Jobs aren't really that easy to find these days. Adults are pushing and shoving for these jobs, too. Good Luck!

How high profile of an employee are you? If anything less than management a letter of resign. isn't realy nessasary. Just tell your boss Thank you for everything they've done for you but you've decided to give them a two week notice. Ask them for a letter of recomendation and if you have to write it yourself on company letterhead and ask them to sign it. If they can't do that within the first week just leave.

Give your two weeks notice, when you want to quit a job you should always give notice, because that leaves it open if you ever want to be employed with them again, and if future employers contact them they will see that you gave notice.
