I ask because of all their talk of "One world governments" and the "New world order". Is a continual state of distrust and fear of other societies a requirement for the Christian faith? Other than everyone on the planet converting to Christianity, how do they expect to ever achieve peace?

This is not meant to be an answer that couples all Christians into one category. It is directed towards those "Christians" that bewail what they perceive as "New World Order Eschatology".
It boils down to ego. If they cooperate with other faiths they lose the validity of their own faith as being "right". Sad huh?

The thing is, there is a coming one world government. There will be a new world order.
It's the Kingdom of God. It will destroys man's wicked governments and bring peace to the earth.

Dan 2:44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,

1Co 15:24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
1Co 15:25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet

2Pe 3:13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
