My computer has started playing up and I can't access programs or connect to the internet. It won't even shutdown I have to press the button etc.
I also get this message "0X10001C11-memory could not be read"

Have I deleted an important file by mistake. Is there any software which can find key missing components of my XP system?

Is it a virus?

Sounds like a ram problem... and, if you have a bunch of stuff running, all at one time, you will get this error..
On your desktop, remove icons you don't use very often, put them all in one folder, and then, if you need to use an icon in there, open the folder.. this saves ram which each icon uses..
don't let your system tray become overloaded, either.
and, if you don't have much ram to begin with, that is, only 256mb, instead of a minimum of 512mb, upgrade it..
Good luck

run ad-aware sounds like youv'e got a trojan, thats rewrote one of your registry files, spy-bots good n so is spy-doctor, but after a while they become as bad as what they get rid of, download the free version, use it then uninstall before it invites crap onto your system, might be wise to run your anti-virus as well,
one other thing you could try, open start..go to find files and folders, type in "ox10001c11" n see what your computer finds, if it looks nauaghty delete it.

I dunno but, by the message uve quoted it looks like ur pc may not have enough power spare from wat ur runnin already, close some programs down using the taskmanager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) and terminiating some of the aplications that r running

ur pc may have been on the recieving end of a few bumps/knocks, and this may of shaken/knocked ur ram out of the banks

ALSO and this is the WORST case seaniro
ur ram sticks cud b shot, in that case take it to a pc store show them the ram stick and say u need a new one cos its fried

You probably just have too many things running at the same time on your computer.
Shut some of them down, or
Reboot your computer, or
Buy some more memory for your machine.

You are running out of PAGE memory

Add more RAM

or simply reeboot the computer

Usually happens when you've been opening and closing lots of small files
