A hypochondriac

a hypochondriac actually believes that they are ill, or becoming ill. Munchausen syndrome is more what you are talking about, where you use made up medical "problems" to get attention. There is also Munchausen-by-proxy, in which one person (such as a parent) will pretend that someone else is sick (such as a child), or go so far as to make that person sick or injured so that they can get the attention.

Depends on their reasons. If they truly believe they are sick, it could be hypochondria which stems from anxiety, phobias, ect. Or if they say these things, knowing they are NOT sick, it could be a variety of mental illnesses to get attention.

Munchhausen Syndrome is one of the more severe cases. My mother had MS, but eventually when people no longer responded to her personal complaints, she began using me as a child to get attention complaining that I was ill. This is called Munchhausen Syndrome by proxy. It really is an illness.

I think you mean Munchausen Disorder. These are people that will go to great lengths to fake symptoms because they want attention. Sometimes parents with this disorder will fake symptoms on their children, to make them seem ill. I heard of a friend's student who convinced everyone at her school that she had cancer, she even shaved her head as if she'd had chemo.
Hypochondriacs are always afraid they'll come down with colds etc. and are always popping over-the-counter remedies but they don't go as far with it as people with Munchausen's because a hypochondriac is actually *afraid* they'll get sick, so they self-medicate to prevent it.

Could be several terms.

If they are consciously faking, it is termed malingering.

If they believe they are sick, but are clearly not, it is hypochondriasis.

If they develop phantom phsyical symptoms in many symptoms that are non-medical in origin, it is somatization disorder.

If they are delusional about the symptom--believe that worms are drilling through their head, it may be a variant of schizophrenia.

Hypochondriac. If he knows that he is not sick and is pretending, then malingerer.
