It pulls out the wires.

Your teeth are also slightly loose as they move for the adjustment. Chewing gum loosens them more and you might have to keep your braces on longer.

It also sticks to the brace work. DON'T DO IT!

The orthodontist tells you to refrain from chewing any type of gum (as well as a lot of other junk), but you know half the people don't even listen.

Chewing gum might pull the braces configuration just a teeny tiny bit out of alignment, but the difference won't really matter.

If you need to chew, go for the sugarless gum. I can't go a day without chewing gum, and I've found that the sugarless kind sticks to your braces less. Try some of the Trident varieties - they've given me no trouble at all! =)

Depends. Go for the minty type. Those are the least gooey and sticky. I chew gum and dont have problems. If it starts to feel weird though, spit it out. The main worry is your back molars. I had a starburst and it pulled up that one that goes around the back molar. That was bad. So if you feel a pulling back there, its not worth it. Otherwise I would say dont worry about it. This is my second time with braces and the only things that I have ever had problems with is the starburst and chips. The thin chips have sliced through my brackets. (it was so thin that it went between my tooth and bracket so popped it off.) So watch out for things like pringles. Just be careful and youll be fine.

Yes, they can get stuck and even pull apart the braces. I had that happen once when I had braces...the back part that is on your very back tooth came off while I was chewing gum.
