There is never a reason to hurt your puppy.. I have trained more then I can count, and have never had to cause pain of any kind to train them for ANYTHING..
Feed him at the same times every day..3-4 times per day, depending on his age.
Take him outside after every feeding. He will go about 5-15 minutes after being fed, depending on his age. It will take awhile for him to learn/develop bladder control, but potty should be easier. Feed on a strict schedule, so that he isn't fed just before bedtime, as he will need to go shortly after being fed..Young pups should be fed and then walked 4 times per day, *until they poop*...Don't just put him out the door, but STAY WITH HIM..He will need more frequent outings for peeing...Walk him just before bedtime, to make certain he is empty..
Never scold for mistakes, but give lavish praise every time he goes outside, like he won the lottery.....Pups can only hold their pee for 1 hour, per month of age..So, its important to empty them just before bedtime..
Use the same word every time, such as 'do yer doody', etc.
The most important thing is to watch him closely, and scoop him up and outside when he begins to act restless, turn circles, etc. soon he will whine and look at you when he needs to go.
Be patient...If your patience wears then, talk to your mom, and ask her how long it took to potty train you...How many times she changed your diaper, and bedding..Ask her if she punished you for pooping your diaper....lol

Puppies need 2 things to toilet train. The first is after eating take them outside every time. The second tip is to always catch them going potty outside and give them a lot of praise each time. This will help them learn to want your praise. Please never hit them when they have an accident in your house. I would also teach them the words of your choice like " Do you have to go potty outside?" Be patient, some dogs take longer to train but praise always does the trick. Good luck.

After feeding your dog (depending on how many times you feed him a day) make sure you take the puppy outside about 5-10mins after eating. Puppies cannot hold it that long, so they will usually have to go out right away. When you are outside with your puppy tell them a key phrase like "Go potty _____ (puppy's name), so they get used to that phrase and know that is where they have to relieve themselves. After they are done going potty outside, congratulate them by rewarding them with a pat on the head and saying good boy/girl. You could also give them a treat such a peanut butter (my vet suggested that). Through out the day, make sure you keep an eye on your puppy, especially after you see or hear them drink water. The sooner you get them outside and repeat the phrase, the sooner they will begin to understand that the outdoors is a good place to relieve themselves. If your puppy happens to poop in the house (this is a suggestion, and what I have done with my dogs), put their snout very close to the area that they soiled and say no. Instead of throwing the poop away in an outside garbage, throw it outside on the grass (I know it is kinda gross), but it will show the puppy that is where it is supposed to go. I hope this helps and good luck with the process!

I used the pee pads first slowly moving it toward the door every day but I also would take him out every hour or two so he would get use to that. This takes a while for them to learn, after about three months my pup will let us know now he needs to go. He'll stand at the door and look at us or whine. Please dont rub your pups nose in it or spat them, thats what I was told and I wouldnt do that. But this really works and they do learn, just be patient and keep it up.

i use wee wee pads, you cn find them in any pet store probably. Start with one of the wee wee pads and put it somewhere far from the door, then everytime your dog pees on the wee pad, and it is all used up, move it closer to the door, until you move it outside, so it will beg to go outside, that what happen to mi dog!
