Yeah, Ronin is right. You just can't read pornography. That just sucks! How is that fair, you can read about women being raped, children being killed, people burning in hell yet you can't enjoy reading about how a nice big pen*s goes in and out of a vag*na.

Our constitution guarantees freedom of the press and freedom of religion. Within reason, you should be allowed to read anything that is educational, historical, or uplifting, whether it's the Bible, the Koran, a book of witchcraft, or the Communist Manifesto.
I can see a school putting a limit on reading material they consider trash, such as porn, or a story full of curse words or with offensive illustrations.
If Minnesota has a law forbidding public school students from reading the Bible to themselves during a school reading time, I say that law is unconstitutional. But I'm from New York; what do I know?

It is not illegal to read any book you want to read. If your school has a rule against reading a bible, that rule is unconstitutional because our constitution says that our government has no right to make any laws regarding religion. The way that breaks down is that they are not allowed to tell you to read or not to read any material that relates to any particular religion. The same applies to prayer in school. A public school cannot tell you to pray, but it also cannot tell you not to pray. That's why the pledge of allegiance has gotten into trouble, because to some people, it sounds too much like a religious statement and that means that schools don't have a right to make you say it.
That applies to Minnesota and every other state in the US. But it is up to you to stand up for your constitutional rights. Good luck.

There is nothing illegal about it, if you independently chose to read it.
They just cant force you to read it.
The concept that the bible or independent prayer is illegal in public school is a horrible lie that is promoted by the "religious right"

it is not or should not be illegal in school . just like a wiccan can bring there choice of reading to school so can a pagan, atheist, hindu, jewish ,catholic, and any otherths you can think of .
It becomes a problem when the bible is used for teaching or for trying to recruit persons . It is for your self and those who already wish to read it.

As an atheist, that doesn't offend me, however, if they were doing so as some kind of pro-religion in school protest, that is less than acceptable. Perhaps they were supposed to be reading something previously specified?

Check the school policy. It might be against the rules.

I wouldn't see why not. If anyone says different, the school's probably got a lawsuit on its hands.
