A marriage between church and state is a bad idea. Fortunately we don't have it in this country. It's not a violation of church and state to let conservative Christians vote and run for office.
Also, don't know if you're aware of this, but "neo-con" is a rather anti-semitic term to use. If you mean conservatives, just say so.

I have said it before and I will say it again! If church and state where to join we would have a king. The reasoning behind this is that kings in the middle ages where believed to have taken orders derectly from God.
