Our talents are gifts from God...how we use them is our gift to God.

There is a Bible story of a Master who goes away and trusts his servants with his money according to their abilities. He does not give everyone the same abilities - but you should take what he gives you and DO THE BEST YOU CAN.
Even GOD isn't for entitlements and generational welfare. He is for doing the best you can and making yourself as successful as you can!

Laziness is a sin but some think we should reward that with welfare. Is that right?

I am ALL FOR HELPING the POOR....IF....they want to help themselves.

Yes, God states in the bible itself that more is expected from those whom he has blessed.

No onto welfare and the poor. Jesus knew the hearts of those helped. We as humans cannot know the heart of one who needs help. THerefore it is not up to us to determine the real need of someone whom may ask for help.

The bible tells us to first take care of the physical need, and then the person will be able to pay attention to their spiritual needs.

That being said, Entitlements and welfare do not work on a secular level because after the physical need is met, there is no one around to attend to the persons spiritual needs. this invites the lazyness that you write of.

We also in the churches tend to take care of the physical needs of the poor and forget that we are to stay in their lives and attend to the spiritual needs of the same people.

Some who ask for help are "brought up on" secular handouts and resent the spiritual aspect of their needs, but we are still supposed to plant those seeds, water those seeds and let God determine when and if they are to grow.

In this day and age, "if they want to help themselves" is something that most needy do not even know about themselves. It is up to us to help them first and then show them how to help themselves. If they accept this kind of teaching is up to them and God.

Yes, He does. That is why America should be doing all that we can to help the downtrodden of the world. I agree with you about generational welfare. I worked in a welfare department and another human services agency for over 20 years [combined] and saw far too many third, fourth and fifth generations on welfare. For some it has become a way of life. And it seems that those determined few can find loopholes in new laws and regulations that allow them to stay on welfare. If only they would put that kind of effort into working at a job and supporting their families. It is up to us to set a good example and to pray for them. In His Name

Unto whom much is given, much responsibility is expected. We will all stand before God one day and answer for what we have been blessed with and the responsibility entrusted to us by Him. We are instructed by the bible to tithe, which means the first 10% of everything we have or make should go to God. Anything above that will be blessed back to you 100 fold. I have to remember this myself and I am grateful to you for asking this question. God helps those who help themselves. Do you think those people on welfare are truly happy? Cheap thrills is not happiness.

Well, if that's true, what does he expect from someone who has watched their entire family be raped and killed and is living in the street at age 8 with 2 younger siblings? And they are malnourished and born with AIDS so their development is slightly harmed? Absolutely nothing? Just a little bit?

Sound extreme? There are thousands of kids like this in Africa right now. What does god expect from them?

properly i'm not an atheist, yet I do have atheist associates. most of the time i think of its neither. i don't think of they easily need you to burn in hell yet i don't think of they have a real concern for you, the two. they are doing what they have been instructed they are meant to do. they think of which will provide them brownie factors with God. What they don't comprehend is that the church is a employer. A money-making employer. for sure they prefer to recruit as many donating contributors as achievable. And the best thank you to do it is to convince Christians that there will be dire effects in the event that they don't help (and that it is their accountability, as solid Christians, to "keep the heathens from the burning pits of hell"). Its a brilliant sales pitch, yet this is purely what it is. some human beings do purely not understand they are contributing to it

Yes he does.

As for the suffering in the world. It will be MUCH easier for those people to get into heaven because they suffered so much here on earth.

I think God gives more to those who are doing more of his work. I think it would be proper to say that to those whom much is given, much is expected in return.
