He wouldn't have had to if Adam and Eve hadn't sinned. Because humans became sinful, we needed a savior to come to earth and live the perfect life that we could never live.

Because of Adam and Eve.
They sinned against God and then God closed the doors of heaven to mankind.
Jesus came to earth as a sacrifice for our sins so that if we follow Him, we will be able to enter the gates of heaven.

He didn't have to, He could have left us on our own and we would all have gone to Hell. But He came to lay down His life for us.
