Here in Missouri - we had a funeral for a troop that was supposed to come home, and one week before he was sent home, his Humvee was struck by an armor-piercing grenade. A christian - baptist church group drove 5 hours down to this man's funeral and started protesting the war in the middle of the service! I want to know your thoughts on this. My thoughts are - how dare they... and neither the time or place to put on such demonstration. Link to the story is here: http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/sep2006/20060907_michael-deason-funeral.pdf
I am making a blog of thier website and not protesting, but exposing this hatred to everyone .... any real christians out there?? Then you need to do something about your fellow brethren.

hi :}
I'm from Missouri not far from this area ,,,,but i tell you what i find it soooooo hypocritical that these types are the very ONES that put bush in office in this area [the bible belt ,all through Arkansas etc etc .]if your not a bushy and a christian well you might as well move to Canada and they tell you that to your face ........nice huh ????but now they protest the war ,,,,i tell you what it was the christian movement and the Baptist in this area that elected this president not once but TWICE !!!!as far as i am concerned these self proclaimed bible thumpers need a lesson in manners and respect and also need to start listening to others opinions besides their own .......

I had heard about this incident and found it appalling. While I am not in favor of war, I appreciate the many that selflessly gave their life for my freedoms. This includes the freedom for some people to make as*es of themselves.
My heart breaks for every family that gives up a person to war. This family in particular remains in my thoughts.
It was wrong, there is no justification. This group of zealots are sick and twisted in my opinion. They show no compassion. They things they exhibit are from from what I would consider Christian values. Their personal agenda is their god and that disgusts me.
Most people are wise enough to not judge an entire religious sect based on the actions of a few.
Blessings )O(
EDIT: My brother is a Deacon at a Baptist church and he is a very decent Christian man.

Sweety, this group has been doing this for a long time. They've picketed the funerals of countless homosexuals and now they're including the people who are fighting in Iraq. Ever heard of Matthew Sheppard? The boy who was beaten and left to die in the middle of a field by a couple of homophobic monsters? Well, the "god hates fags" group, better known as the Westboro Baptist Church, protested at his funeral and also has a "days in Hell" counter on their site... it "counts the days" that he's "been in Hell".
The Southern Poverty Law Center lists Westboro Baptist as an active hate group - http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp?T=29&m=4 - and the leader of the group is a megalomaniacal inhuman waste of flesh - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps
They aren't a Christian Baptist group. They are terrorists. They convey their "message" through hate, fear and terror. They don't care about God, they don't care about decency, they don't actually care about the war or the soldiers who've died... all they really care about is spreading hate.
I would never compare them to real Christians as there is absolutely no trace of humanity in any godhatesfags cult member.

I appologize for the bad taste that you have experience from a so called Christian group! I would have to say that this group has failed in being an example and showing the love of God to it's fellow neighbours. Don't associate protesters and radicals with this group. Baptist's are usually revserved people and I cannot understand why they would be so disruptive? I can assure you that there are millions out there, not like this. Check out tour local Pentecostal church! Join a samll group like Youth, Young Adults, Young Marrieds, Celebrate Revcovery, Alpha, Choir, etc...you will meet amazing people who can transform your world!

This group is not the "fellow brethren" of Baptists or any other Christians. Fred Phelp's group is composed of less than 100 people, all of them the children, grand-children, and in-laws of Phelps (he has over 10 children - big family). They call themselves a Baptist church, but they are not affiliated with any other Baptist churches or organizations. Their "church" has no members who aren't related to the Phelps family. They don't represent any movement or theology beyond themselves. Calling them a church is actually misleading, as this disgusting behavior is confined to one deeply twisted family.
Frankly I woulnd't make a blog about them. They want attention - please don't give it to them.

We have just about as much control over them as you do. If you think they'll listen to someone who says, "I'm a Christian and you should stop," you're sadly mistaken. There's not a whole lot any of us can do about them. It's awful that this happened in your community, but it's wrong of you to think that the rest of of the Christian world is just sitting on it's butt and choosing not to do anything. We think is sucks just as much as you do, but we have no more authority over them than you.

Such people are not my brothers/ sisters. That type of action does not reflect true christianity. Fortunately such activities are now against the law.
