Also, can they withhold my pay if I do not return the keys to the restaurant? They treat people like sweatshop workers with little or no respect. As a mgr there, this is totaly unacceptable. So I prefer to give a two week notice, but if they are going to treat me like that, I'm just going to bag them and move on with life. The restaurant keys will be in the garbage, as well as my comp card, if they do not honor my two week notice. What should I do? I have a fantastic job lined up starting next week. Also, I was one of the few Americans who worked in this kitchen, among all the spanish speaking employees, who knew no english at all, I felt ridiculed and singled out in a negative way continuously {one reason for my resignation} What should I do?

legally, no on the keys since that is a separate matter, on the notice unfortunately the answer is no. just take a break and enjoy yourself before your new job. By the way what restaurant is it and best of luck to you, low end companies are not the best.

Anything you do will go on your record and they can withhold money for the keys. If they have to re-key the whole kitchen, you may be held responsible for that expense.
They don't have to pay you for time that your did not work. Better to just return the keys and move on with your life.

Yes they can hold your pay until you return all of thier property ie keys etc etc. No they owe you nothing, they simply let you go after you offered a two weeks notice which is common for most entry level positions. The main reason was because with your already bad attitude, they just figured it would get worse as your time got shorter. I would hand them thier property and get your last check and probably a good reference.

the reason for giving a two week notice is to not leave the employer without a replacement.so if they don't need you then better for you. no, they don't owe you two weeks pay, they only owe you for the hours you have worked. i would give back the keys, and at the same time get the money owed to you, and move on. not all empoyers are really meant to be a boss.

If you do not return keys, they can keep your check. They might feel you are coming back when they are closed and could change all locks and charge you. Check your state. In Kentucky, we have a "right to work law." You can quit at anytime without notice for any reason. They should pay you for the two weeks if you work. If you do not need them for a reference, turn in your keys and request your check.

They don't own you anything and not only can they withold your paycheck for not returning keys, they can take you to small claims court and have you pay the costs of rekeying the restaurant. Sorry, honey, it's time to grow up. Give them the keys and walk away, your future looks very promising and hopefuly you won't have to work with foreigners. Yuck. See you at the Klan bake sale. i'll be the one in the hooded robe.

Yes, they owe you for any tme that you worked after you gave your notice!
If you haven't done so already, next payday walk into their office and demand your final pay and give them your set of keys...everyone is happy now!
I still have a set of keys from a previous job and they didn't withhold my pay!

no they do not owe you any money for the two weeks that you arent going to be there, yes they can withhold your money until you give them back their keys.
if you want your paycheck, it would be best to turn in the keys and the comp card, because, legally, they can prosecute.
