Well, I searched for the past 40 minutes for this quote, and could not find anything like it. Great quote though. I agree with an earlier post that Mark Twain is a good candidate, as it is clearly his style of humor. However, even with that as part of the search, I couldn't find anything remotely like it.
Good luck finding the citation. I am humbled in my attempt.
