Some vets say that it's an instinctive behavior -- cleaning up around the "den" to avoid attracting predators. Others say that it's the sign of a vitamin deficiency in the dog's diet. Nobody really knows why for sure, though.
My dog does it, too, and the vet says that it's not harmful. She has a dog who's seven years old, in the best of health, and has an unpleasant "snack" every time he goes out.
The best trick I've heard is to sprinkle hot sauce on the feces right away. A couple of bites, and that ought to break her of the habit.

I am sorry to hear that!!! Its nothing that you are doing though. This could be a vitamin deficiency in her diet. Take her to your vet and tell them of the nasty behavior. There may be an additive that they can add to her food that would prevent her from eating her own feces. Be careful of this as well. Do not let her eat too much of her own excrement because she could get a nasty bacterial infection in her stomach. Just take her to the vet and they will definitely be able to fix this problem.
I hope that this helps.

While it is a gross behavior to humans it is perfectly normal for dogs. It doesn't mean she's hungry, has a nutritional deficiency or anything else..it simply means she is doing something normal and natural in the canine world.
Despite the fact it is normal for dogs to do this they should be discouraged from doing so.

dont worry about this its nopt a problem...i work at centinela pet feed in southern california and if you've heard about us, we know our stuff. go to your local pet store and ask for a product called DETER. its a tablet that you give to your dog and it will make him stop eating his own feces. it is completely safe! good luck.

The dog is vitamin deficient. Go to the store and get it some multi- vitamins for dogs and it will stop when it gets in her system.
