In light of the Pope's incindiary remarks about Islam, Christianity's violent past; it's history of intolerance as far as science, women, other religions, the Crusades, keeping the people ignorant so they can manipulate them and witchhunts are concerned; it's institution of a government on earth which goes against the teachings of Christ; calling the Pope "father" when that goes against the Gospel; it's hoarding of wealth and treasure (what goes to the Vatican stays in the Vatican); the church's stand on birth control and priestly molestations; these things and others make me wonder about just what has been the actual benefit on the world of Christianity. Can anyone tell me if the world really is better off because of it?

Civilization was set back between 800 and 1,000 years as a direct result of the depradations and enforced ignorance that was perpetrated by Christianity, upon humanity.

No. All of your points are valid, although xians will be in denial about them. How many wars have been fought in the name of the xian god? Why should Africa suffer so much with povery and AIDS when the church could do more to help them?
People better have a good sense of accountability on judgment day when they are asked why they let the world go to ruin -- all because of their dogmatic beliefs and hatred for liberalism.

people will always believe in something. If not christianity, it would be something else. whatever that belief is it will make for some good & some bad. It is the way it is.
If there were no religion people would argue about which side of an egg should be opened first.
The world is love. The world is hate.

No i think like you said.. its done more harm than good. It goes for all religions which have been the root of all wars n bloodshed.
If we as human beings had our own individual interpretation of spirituality without following a set doctrine it would be a better place. I dont see the need for a church / mosque or anything like that.

I would say that the world is slightly worse off b/c of xianity.
If the church had not stopped the western world from pursuing science for the hundreds off years before the Renaissance, we might be already MUCH further along in our understanding of disease, physics, geology, biology, etc...
As for all the killing, almost all cultures kill all the time, so I don't think xianity would really have made that much difference.

No. The world would have been much better off without it.
I'd love to live to see the day that they no longer hold the power over the people.

No it is not. But christians have found an awful lot of interesting and innovative ways to kill and torture people, and they have of course basically cornered the market in killing and torturing in the name of love.

It always helps to not confuse Christianity with Catholicism. They appear the same, but, are very different.
