In the USA (unless we do something about it), it will spell our doom. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values, under cover of front organizations like the Christian Coalition, the American Family Association and the Promise Keepers. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

"Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder." ~ Arnold Toynbee

I think that organized religion should have no place in politics whatsoever, especially not in America.

The American ideal of a free society is one that embraces a plurality of ideas, and seeks to bring these differences of ideas together to create a constructive compromise for the benefit of all. Organized, religion, on the other hand, insists that it is the "One and only true path" and that everyone else's viewpoints are false, invalid, or outright "evil", depending on who you talk to.

Certainly, one cannot create a constructive compromise that benefits all people through exploration and dialogue on differing views AND maintain that only one set of ideas is correct, and all others are false, invalid, or outright evil at the same time. Organized religion, especially those religions which maintain an "exclusivity clause", is fundamentally opposed to the American ideal of a free society.

I am also against tax-exempt status for religious bodies, and against ministers being able to perform legal acts. I think Marriage should be a strictly religious institution, and that a separate "civil union" should be constituted by the civil authorities with no involvement of any church to deal with the tax status and legal rights issues.

If there is one lesson that history tells us, it is that the mixture of spiritual fervor and temporal power produces bloody atrocity, predation, and deprivation more than any other causal factor.

Religion and politics should remain seperate. Politics is about democratic principles and religions in general aren't democratic.

Like the Jesus said in the book of John. "They are no part of this world, as i was not". So we can be sure Jesus didnt involve himself with politics and wouldnt want his followers doing the same.

non secular faith is something that brings human beings peace and is spiritually relaxing. It supplies human beings a community, and there is help and encouragement interior that community to boot as charity for others. The non secular practices of human beings are area of the variety of existence of human beings worldwide huge. to assert that that's a variety of politics is to pass over the spirituality it is so substantial to human beings. human beings out of religion and hearts of charity may well be moved and inspired to do selfless works for the behalf of others with no longer something in return than perhaps the delight of having the flexibility to help others in want. on a similar time as many religions in the process the worldwide do have ethics and morals, those are in lots of situations the exterior teachings and fall wanting the underlying spirituality and theology of the religion that's deeply own and meaning to its adherents. Atheist regimes traditionally have shown to be not greater effective at bringing approximately peace and team spirit than the different form of prepared government be it a theocracy, democracy, or in any different case (e.g., evaluate the genocide with the aid of the palms of the atheist Soviet regime). those finding for the shortcomings of religion will easily discover it, and there is not any doubt that faith has been abused in the time of historic previous for a variety of motives with the aid of a variety of human beings (e.g., politicians, scams, and an incredible type of others). those finding with open minds and open hearts for the warmheartedness, generosity, and want in faith would be pleasantly shocked. faith could no longer be somewhat the monster as quickly as we see it as area of the humanity of human beings everywhere you go. i wish this enables. Peace be with you.

If you truly believe in something it will affect everything you do even in subtle ways. I've seen people do crazy stuff just simply because they do not actually believe what they say they believe. Therefore; I think however minor of one it is still somewhat of an issue.

it's terrible (at least it is right now), but I think there needs to be
a balance.

right now, it's out of balance (too much religion...actually what's
happening right now is hypocrisy, so it's not really religion)
