Write out a schedule of when you're going to work on things and STICK TO IT! Reward yourself after you've stuck to your schedule for a week. Or even a day if you're a horrible procrastinator. Works for me, I take myself shopping or out for drinks.

I have always been a procrastinator, after high school anyway. I did good up until then. I think it has to do with motivation, fear, selfishness and lifestyle. Sometimes we know what we should be doing and sometimes we still have no idea on how to do it or think that we can't do it. I find myself really doing my best when it is crunch time. All day long, I often worry about how I am going to do something and fear I am just not getting it right. Then when it comes time that I am out of time, I just do it and it gets done. Then I realize that wow, even if I do my best and do it my way, it is ok. Asking others for help is also good too, because everyone needs ideas. Then I realize that if I would have started sooner, it would have been better, because I have good ideas and could do it even more to my expectations. I really don't know the cure to it, but I know that when I get whatever it is I am putting off finished, it gives me such as sense of accomplishment and a feeling of self-worth. It is hard to change our behavior, but pushing ourselves and having encouragement from others seems to help somewhat.

You are procrastinating for a reason. Maybe you need to improve your working conditions. Do you have enough space and good enough equipment? Maybe the work is too energy draining and you need to take a little at a time instead of biting off more than you can chew all at once.

Maybe you lack motivation. Resist the urge to do something leisurely for a while. Decide in advance how much time to spend working before taking a break and resist the urge to deviate from that.

Have the same problem:(
Well, it's good to have a schedule - you'll see how much time you would save! I know that sometimes it's hard to sit your books, exams, classes, etc. and I always delay to the deadline... I am what I am.... Scientists say that it is not good for health - procrastinators are nervous and tend to spoil every project at the end because they just don't have the comfort of being sure they are well-prepared. My reason is usually rational, I think: I delay something to make sure that I think it over soufficiently. That;s why I don't do homework the same day;) Well, maybe if it were maths or sth/.. then maybe I would.. But I usually have to think of literature, so...

make a list of all the things you need to do and what is holding you back from doing a good job, is it computer, running around, phone....or just goofing off. Whatever it is start cutting back and tell yourself you can only do it when you have given time to your #1 project and stick to it.

This is my biggest problem too... I avoid doing things I don't like to do.

I've tried psychology against myself but alot of times that doesn't work. The power of "it can wait" is stronger than the power of "do it now".

I think the solution is to break that habit of saying (and listening to) "it can wait". Each time you don't listen to that little voice, you help to create the new habit of "do it now". Over a period of time "do it now" becomes more powerful than "it can wait"...

I should go do that laundry and food shopping now that I've been putting off...

Get rid of your television set, first of all.

Forget your friends. (they're losers who will never amount to anything, anyway, and will only keep you from what you want out of life)

Just do it.
