No way! I do it all the time! They deserve it for being so annoying! The last time a telemarketer called me it was for a t.v . ratings/parental control thing and despite the fact that I told her it wasn`t a very good time, she kept going on and on about the violence on t.v. and how it affects children and blah blah blah..........so, I started messing with her. I said"Yeah, I really don`t care about that. I don`t like kids. I like violence and nudity and coarse language and wish it was allowed a lot more on t.v. Also, I think there should be a network station that shows porn. That way I could get it free and not have to pay for stinking cable or pay for renting it at video stores!" She was so flabbergasted, SHE hung up on ME. It was funny and I don`t regret a second of it. Keep it up, maybe they`ll learn not to call and mess with you.

Andy Rooney's tips for telemarketers
Three Little Words That Work!!
(1)The three little words are: "Hold On, Please..."
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.
Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.
These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.
(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.
This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.
What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!
(3) Junk Mail Help:
When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away.
When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope.
Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 37cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back.
It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before! the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.
One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas.
Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back!
If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them.
You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 37 cents.
The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice!
Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea !
If enough people follow these tips, it will work----I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore.

I don't think it's too wrong.
I would generally try to give them my order for pizza (confused the heck out of some people), tell them to give me their home phone number and offer to call them during their meal hour, or pretend that I didn't speak English.
Now that I've registered with the National Do Not Call Registry (site listed below), I rarely get any telemarketer calls. My number will stay on the list for, I think, five years. It's free to register and it's a government site (they won't be selling your information to yet more telemarketers!).
Good luck!

You know what I do when they keep calling, they ask for the person who they want to speak to, I say "yeah, hold on a second" and lay the phone down in front of the T.V. and let them listen to whatever show is on there, I don't pick the phone back up till I hear the busy signal coming from it. LOL One time I had one calling to sell me a newspaper and I actually did want the paper but I made it hard and made him sing me the Oscar Meyer Wiener song to get my sale....he didn't know the words so he asked his manager and the entire office sang me the song! LMAO that was awesome! Another thing you can do if they call you during dinner is say "well we are in the middle of dinner, can I have your number to call you back?" and if they say they can't do that...say well sorry then and hang up!

I think telemarketers are major rude and an invasion of my privacy, but, no, flaming (cursing someone) isn't exactly the right thing to do. You obviously already feel guilty about it, but I completely understand how they can drive you crazy and make you do something you normally would not do.
Get on the National Do-Not-Call Registry. Look it up on the Internet and submit the form and, VOILA, no more telemarketers.

Its up to you how you handle it. The first couple times they call I ask nicely to be taken off their list, then hang up. After that I usually just pick it up and set the phone down til they go away.
My friend actually punches a key to make a loud noise then hangs up. I have always felt to sorry for them to do that.
It is a crappy job and I am sure whoever is calling doesn't want to do it so I try to be nice first.

Yup, it's very rude. Their trying to make a living and probably would get another job as soon as an opportunity came their way. When I'm called I tell them I just buried my wife today. They profusely apologize and hang up immediately

Normally when a telemarketer calls I just hand the phone to my 3 year old....It delights him, and they put me on a "do-not-call" list

I don't blame you. Does your state have a "no call list"? Mine does and it has reduced the calls alot. My brother has a good way of handling them. If they call for carpet cleaning, he says he doesn't have any carpeting. My favorite was when he got a call to switch phone service and he said he doesn't have a phone. the response was a long silence and then they hung up. lol.
