Can anyone tell me one good thing Islam has done for anyone anywhere?

Is there anything good Islam has done for this world and why are they so oppressive to women? Are Muslim men so weak and hippocrtical that they can not bear to see a woman dress like a woman? Are they afraid they may get an erection, Allah forbid, and rape someone?

I cannot understand Islam. One faction says it is a peaceful religion of tolerance, another faction wants all infidels killed in honor of Allah. I'm not sure they know what they believe. I think they have become addicted to the unbridled violence. They can maim and kill without consequence, and try and believe it is what their God wants.

Islam is not oppressive toward women, in face, Islam is the only religion that I know of which makes education a REQUIREMENT for both men and women. Christianity, on the other hand. says that a woman must not publicly ask questions, but must instead ask her husband in private. Define dress like a woman - do you mean dress like a prostitute? What woman with any dignity needs to present herself as a sex object instead of a human being?

You know I am a Christian but I lived in Afghanistan, the worst place for that, and I know that not all Muslims believe like that. I have met many wonderful Muslims who have gone back to Afghanistan after living in the west to help their people because they care and because they believe it is the right thing to do according to the Quran. Even there Muslim men and women fought for the rights of women in the form of RAWA (visit www.rawa.org). I have met many Muslim people who are very active in the their Mosque with fundraising to help poor countries. Muslims are far more active givers when it comes to tithing and charity. I guess you have never heard of the Red Cresent, the Islamic version of the Red Cross. Do you actually know any Muslims??

Yes... they preserved the writings of the ancients, which were systematically destroyed by the early Christians. After they conquered much of Spain, these writings were translated into Latin, and began to spread throughout the west, triggering the Renaissance. In other words, western civilixation owes its very existence to Islam. Islam, unfortunately, decided not to come along for the ride, and instead, remains mired, philosophically, in the 14th century.

Circlometry... here's a news flash... the concept of 'zero' was invented in India... Geometry was invented by the Greeks (ever hear of 'Euclid'?). Islam had nothing to do with either one.

Once upon a time I understand the mid-east was quite advanced, but something happened that seems to have reverted them back to the stone age. Don't know if it was the influx of Islam or some other reason, but its very sad. Now all you can really say for islam in the mid-east is its very backwards and violent, a throwback to the modern world.

To your first question: Islam expanded the Greek-Roman knowledge and return to the West to create the Renaissance (rebirth). There is nowhere you will not find Islamic results.

As for your fashion statement: Women is the west are complaining about all the attention they are getting my men, so many the attire has its advantages.

Why so hate filled? Islamic cities in the Middle East used to be great centers of scientific discovery and trade. Really, it's possible that early Islam has done more for the improvement of society that most other religions.
