Didn't realize that I left my key in the "acc' position for a while yesterday. Got back in the car, and, of course, the battery was dead. When I then tried to get my key out, it wouldn't turn past "acc". While we're at it, I can't shift my car out of "Park" which, for the time being, I'm assuming is caused by the dead battery. theory is that the switch that tells my transmission I'm depressing the brake is electrical.

I just had a customer have the exact same thing happen, and once wejump started the vehicle everything went back to normal. I'm sure you've experienced this as well by now.

ok, well sometimes my chevy would do that, you have to turn it on, i'm assuming on your vehicle there is a little button there too? Keep trying it. Also not being able to shift out of park has nothing to do with a dead battery. You have to have the key turned so far to be able to shift out of park, and most likely your brake too.
