They aren't. Microsoft doesn't make processors. Intel does. And Intel retired the name Pentium. Now they are using Intel Core now.

Quote:
The Intel Core processor uses the same microarchitecture as the Pentium M processors, but discards the Pentium M name (and also uses Intel's new logo); with the release of the Intel Core 2 processors on July 27, 2006, Intel has retired the Pentium name.

Its Intel that make the Pentium processors, and I doubt they will release a Pentium 5. They've switched to using a number scheme (such as Pentium D 840) and also, they have the Core and Core 2 series (made up of Core Solos and Core Duos).

But Pentium 5 would kind of mean the 5th 5th processor (since Pentium means 5, because the first processor to have that name was a 586). So its kind of redundant to have a Pentium 5.

It is not Microsoft...it is Intel. Intel has introduced Intel® Pentium® D processor-based PC with revolutionary Intel dual-core technology recently...it may take another year to introduce Pentium 5
