I had this thought 2 and a half years ago. I went to college, qualified to become a teacher, I quit a very high powered job in UK, and am now living in Spain. The thought of living in the UK again now turns my stomach. I have no regrets, and find England very depressing when I come back to visit.
I am not saying that this is forever, but I became very depressed living in England due to working too much, paying too much tax, becoming worried about violence in the cities, and generally finding myself in the 'rat race'.
If you are feeling the same, do something about it before it is too late!!
Good luck.

It depends on the reason for evacuation. I moved to Wales from the US 20 years ago, and do not wish to return. I think you may be suffering from Headlineitis. So, wherever you decide to go, read the news every day. If at the end of a month, you still think its better, then go for a visit of at least a month. Concentrate on shopping, schools, employment, work that may or may not be available to you, how people treat you, etc. Then consider abandoning. I cannot think of anyplace that is better, although I can see why you might feel a bit claustrophobic.
Good luck, and I'm with that girl from the US who feels just the same. Maybe we all need to stay put and do the dirty work of getting decent governments.

I live in the US. If, one day, I'm not run down while I cross the street by a crackhead talking with his fixer on his cell, a drunk driver gets on the hiway going the wrong way in the dead of night with no lights on, or a volcano erupts, then the earth will hiccup and, either way, my life will be forever changed! Can't win!
I don't know where you could go that might be any better than where you are. If things in the UK are so bad - and I'm sure they're not 100% good, not many places are - I would suggest getting involved and try to fix them. Don't merely use your voice, use your time, effort and talent. Make a difference.
ps: I lived in the US Virgin Islands for over 6 years - they got problems too!

Depends why you want to move, what do you think is wrong with UK?
Somethings you carry with you wherever you go, if you running away you won;t find what you ae looking for, if you have a valid reason to want to relocate e.g. work, health, family, a wish to try other cultures etc then maybe.
never do anything without doing your homework first and ensuring it's for best reasons
By the way Uk is great (I have lived in and/or visited many countries) and so are others. Life is what you make it wherever you are, ther will always be people, policies, and issues wherever you go that you will not like, but plenty people around you and things to do that you do

If you are about to retire with a pension and you own your home in England, now is the time to sell up and move to a warmer climate where the sun is guaranteed to rise every day. Your pension will go a lot further in Spain, Cyprus or Greece.
If you are not close to retirement and will still have to work to make ends meet, stay where you are. It's all very well dreaming about living somewhere better but in reality it is not feasable until you no longer have to work.
As for England it had changed dramatically over recent years. It is no longer the country I grew up in which is why I am much happier settled in Spain. So give my love to England and tell her I am not coming back!

English people are good people! It's just that they take a long time to grown up. So wait until your grown up before you decide, to move. And if you decide to go how will you know it's better. The grass may seem green, but in truth it rarely is.
No stay and feed the grass you have with truth, love, compassion and understanding and Englands green and pleasant land will bloom again.

Upp'd sticks & left UK 2 years ago, now have a new beautiful home with no mortgage, cheap petrol for the car, better weather and a standard of living that was unatainable to me previously. Why would any one even contemplate staying in the UK?
