Start low--you don't want to exhaust yourself by running too far, too soon. Once you build endurance, you could probably run several miles if you wanted.
But for now, I agree with those who say 1 - 2 miles.

why do you want to lose 10 pounds at your height and weight you should at the point be skinny as a rail but if your that determined talk with your doc they can help you plan a routine specially suited for you

run 26 miles.. or the marathon =) he he, u will feel a great sense of acomplishment if u survive to the end, good luck!
You should not be so concerned with your weight and body image, you sound fine, maybe u should work on your self-confidence rather than your image....

Running doesn't really work like that. You have to build up to it. Start off with a slow pace or else you'll get winded. Work your way up to your goal.

At your age, I would think 5 miles a day should do it. Most importantly, lay off the soda's, french fries and other fatty foods,
