I have seen a few answerers on this thread http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnYqGNsPxgCTGy5Yt3bT5DLsy6IX?qid=20060917094944AAcNWC4 namely chevailier and smileycat, assume that the act of dancing is akin to being like a prostitute. Why do you Muslim people assume that having fun and expressing joy or celebration through dancing is like being a prostitute? This makes no sense, and I really would like to know where you get these notions from. I like to dance, matter of fact, I went out dancing last night with my friends. I accepted no money for sex, and my husband was at home with the kids while I enjoyed a night out. Am I a prostitute now according to Islam? Well, I'm one broke hoe, I didn't get any johns or any cash last night. Just a hangover and sore feet from dancing and drinking with my girls.

Each individual has a freedom of choice along with free will to live their life the way they desire as long as it does not interfere with the rights of others who have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities. all people are required to follow the laws, rules and mores of the Culture and Society in which they reside or the other members will consider them deviant and subject to the penalties of the Culture and Society. Since Culture and Society differ one needs to be familiar with the laws, rules and mores of the Culture and Society before condemning.

You're forgetting that several Christian denominations shun dancing, drinking, etc for that same reason.

Just because you dance doesn't mean it's right or wrong.

It seems like you're forgetting that there's not one "right" way of thinking. If you don't agree, then you don't agree. You're not going to change anyone by doing this.

You're assuming that all Muslims are the same. You are assuming that all Christians are the same. Doing so shows your immaturity and unability to think and understand what is outside your comfort zone.

Even though I'm not into dancing myself, these Muslims are mostly living in the 7th Century.

It is so tragic when people cannot see beyond those ridiculous books. Muslims and Christians each have an archaic book full of lies and superstitions. They are man made, not God made.
