One a year is plenty, but once every other year is even better, as far as letting the b*tch recover fully. I know a lot of breeders say that once a year is OK. But I've seen pups from litters where the female is bred every other year, and both mom and pups tend to be a lot healthier and happier.

I don't mean to sound nasty or anything, but if you need to ask a question like this, are you sure you should be breeding dogs in the first place?

Just because dogs come into heat twice a year doesn't mean thay should be bred both times. 1 litter of puppies a year is plenty and more can be very hard on the mother.

Would you want to give birth twice a year or even for that matter once a year?? Educate yourself before even thinking of breeding any animal.

No, they should only be bred once a year. I know a woman who breeds her chihuahuas every cycle. Poor little dogs.

When I used to breed my dogs,My vet told me it's better for the female to only have one litter a year, because it's Too stressful on the mom having babies and being pregnant all the time

No it's not - that's what puppy mills do. They breed the poor dog every time she comes into heat until her body can't tolerate the abuse any more and she dies. Get this poor dog spayed!

Are you a breeder?? If you are, you should have educated yourself before you started this. If you arent a breeder, please have your pet fixed. I can honestly tell you that if you think you are going to "make" money doing this the right way you are wrong
