a friend's boy has been exposed to it at school, and today has the symtoms (sore throat) but no rash. She's taking him in in an hour, but has 19 kids coming to a restaurant for his 8th b'day party in 5 hours..& doesn't know what to do. I told her to look for 'sandpaper like' skin, and red tounge, and redness in his groin & armpits, but I was wondering if any mom's reading this have known about S.F. without the rash & would he still be contageous?

Scarlett Fever is a complication of Strep Throat! Yes he can have strep throat and pass it on to others. Not everyone that is exposed to Strep throat develops scarlett fever. They can do a strep screen with a swab from his throat to see if he is positive for strep. Maybe he will get lucky and it will be negative. If positive, he needs antibiotics right away and yes contagious. I suggest he wear a mask to the birthday party. He can pretend he's a cowboy bandit! Good Luck!!! and Happy Birthday little fella!

call a med line and if in doubt don't go to the party. I know it will break the child's heart but you don't want to expose that many kids to it!!!!!!!
