Wal-Mart has come out with some decent, yet inexpensive guitars for the beginner. Your kid can learn a couple of chords on it before he or she decides the fingertips hurt too much and quit altogether.

Don't shell out a lot of bucks until you're certain your child has the motivation and drive to play the guitar.

i dont know if they have a toys r us in CA but they sell 'child size' gutairs.
