why do people spit in the street when it's such a disgusting habit?

I really do not know. Today I saw two young attractive girls say about 15 or 16 years of age, walking along chatting animatedly. Then one of them turned her head as if to look at something but instead snorted and spat onto the pavement. Urgh............ it was disgusting and was it really necessary? No I don't think so. She made herself look like a total scrubber.

I suppose that some people don't care about what others think, so see nothing wrong with it. If phlegm (flem) builds up in the back of the throat or nasal cavity (as it does more frequently with smokers) then there are only two ways of getting rid of it - spit or swallow, As most peolpe wouldnt want it in their throat all day. Swallowing it is more polite - but hugely repulsive to some people, so they spit instead. Chav's do it though just to look cool.

All sorts of reasons;
1. Bug in mouth
2. Phlem caught in throat, if you swallow it just gets caught again
3. Gross taste, spitting beats swallowing
4. They are chewing tobacco.
Sometimes it's necessary, my advice if you're gonna do it be discreet.
My turn...Which is worse, Spitting on the street or Throwing up on the street? See I have occasionally spit in the street, but I've never thrown up in the street. Maybe this is a give take relationship.

IDK even though it fairly is NASTYYYY! i grew to become into walking down the line the different day and exceedingly much have been given spit on via this guy, how disgusting of someone are you able to be??? there is rarely a reason to would desire to spit! in case you do not want to swallow your saliva, you could discretely spit right into a tissue or visit the washing room and spit interior the sink, spitting in public makes you look as though a hundred% TRASH! some human beings have not any manners in any respect.

We see it as totally disgusting because of the society we live in. We have been brought up with certain ways of looking at things.

Some cultures find it perfectly normal - I was in China and thought I was going to throw up! Everywhere I looked there were people spitting, men, women and children. Trying to walk in the street was like trying to run an obstacle course of spittle.

Now, people who have been brought up in our society who still insist on doing this are just vulgar people.
