I told a couple of people I was getting sinus surgery done. One girl said aren't you afraid it might make your nose look different. Can this happen? If anyone knows anyone who's had it done or has had it done themselves. Is this at all possible?

Surgery on your sinuses should not change the appearance of your nose on the outside in any way. A rhinoplasty is a "nose job" and it is sometimes done to help breathing and that may be what your friends are thinking of, but this type of surgery doesn't even work on your sinuses, just the cartilage and bone, where as the other is strictly done on your sinuses.

I've had two nose surgeries. I suffered from a badly broken nose. The first was for a deviated septum and to clear the sinus passages. They restructured the inside and it made no change to the outside. The second was shortly after to repair the damage to the outside. And of course, it did change the appearance.
With any surgery there is always an amount of risk. The risk that it affects the outside is very small, however, it's always a possiblity.

I had it done about four years ago, the only change was the dark circles under my eyes got lighter. I was really ill..so it was a stark improvement. There are no cosmetic changes in the landmarks of your face, so do not worry. If you are ill enough to have it done, it is so worth it!

No because your sinuses are at the back of the nose.
