It's been almost 5 months since the DWI...Many of the senior NCOs believe I should leave the military. Many of my civilian friends say I should fight it. My peers in the Army called me a "quitter". My BN Commander and CO say I should make a rebuttal statement of some sort...but it's too late to have one done. My lawyer has sent a letter to Virginia telling the Army not to do anything with my resignation until my case in the civilian courts are over. I still am not quite sure what to do? If I do not resign, I will be pressured to leave. If I do leave, I will leave with a General Discharge under honorable conditions. The paperwork is on the General's desk for approval...what do I do??? Stay and fight or go...?

It depends on how you feel man. If you feel for staying then stay in the game and fight for it! But you had a hard work ahead convincing your friends you worth being there for sure! If you dont feel youre up to it then accept the discharge. No one could make this decision for you! You got to think about it (and pray if you have to!) and feel whats right for you. If your unsure try to find a time with a councueler or a psykologiscian or priest or anyone that is fit of listen to your feelings about this and tell you what you really want to do. Good luck and may good be with you (if you belive in god that is!). Johan

I'm sorry, guy, but the military has long lines of well-qualified candidates banging on the door trying to get in. When demand for a job exceeds the need -- we got all the soldiers we need -- then it's easier and more efficient to let go of the soldier who is already trained and ready to fight. I mean what if you were to have a little drinking problem over in Iraq? (Forget for a moment that technically there is no alcohol available to troops in Iraq.) Take a walk, be proud you're a veteran, thank Allah you're alive and can get on with your life.

Sounds like you are being forced out. I served with lots of guys who got DWI, DUI, etc. etc. They got a slap on the wrist and were never told to leave the military. This sounds fishy to me. It all depends on what you want to do? Do you want to fight it and stay in, or do you want to leave under a General Discharge? Its all up to you.
Good Luck!

the military has zero tolerance for DWIs. You knew it was stupid, and yet you got behind the wheel anyway. time to take your punishment and accept the fact that your military career is over becasue of your actions.

What Branch are you in? If its a drivers branch, then maybe you could just ask to transfer. At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to make a mistake
