Hrrrrm, do i detect a hint of jingoistic anti-Islamic claptrap?
The mythology of the world is full of gods dropping in and out of existence.
the Norse Gods ( Wagner's ring cycle rocked! the best rise and fall of god story ever penned into music)
The Olympians vs the Titans ( try KEATS poem Hyperion)
The Roman gods got vaped with the coming of Christianity,
shame really...they had a lot of fun!
The Pagan Western traditions (Wicca/Druids etc) seem to be experiencing a re-birth.... time will tel if the southern baptist loonies re-instigate the Inquisition !
The BIG THREE... JEWISH, CHRISTIAN, and ISLAMIC:
Well, you cant have one without the others..... They are the same!!!!!!!!!!! I am a Anglican, that means i am also part of the wider Christan faith and the other two as well...
Don't be so fast to follow in the footsteps of my avatar,
Zarathustra wandered the world preaching that god was dead
(READ NIETZSCHE)... he didn't find a very receptive audience!

There's only one God. And He's always been around and always will be. God has no "lifespan".

Have you ever read "Small Gods" by Terry Pratchett?
A humorous answer to your query.
PS - There is also Mr Gaiman's take on the question ("American Gods" and "Anansi Boys")
