I have the feeling of my pinky finger and the side of my hand being "asleep." The doctor said it wasn't carpal tunnel because there isn't numbness in your picky with it. I have tried everything to get the feeling to go away. Massage and shaking out my hand but the numbness is still there. Anyone ever had this problem. The doctor suggested that I see a chiropractor because it is a possible nerve problem. It has been this way for 2 days and it is concerning me. I am only 28 so I do not think it is anything heart or stroke releated as my physical 2 weeks ago was fine. Any ideas?

Your symptoms indicate that you may have a pinched or compressed Ulnar nerve. This nerve is commonly called the "crazy bone" This nerve runs across your back, under your arm in the arm pic and down the arm to the hand and fingers.

My symptoms are numb pinky, numb on the side of my hand, and half of the ring finger along its' length. These are the common symptoms of it being compressed. The compression most frequently happens at the elbow (crazy bone).

There are some treatments and nerve stretches for it that may help but the most frequent "fix" for it is to surgically move the nerve over at the elbow to avoid the compression point. From what I was told by the surgeon, it is about 80% successful. I opted to live with the numb hand and fingers.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

Numbness In Pinky Finger

Numbness in your pinky and/or ring finger is related to the nerve in your elbow (tennis elbow). Press firmly on the part of your arm that is in line with the back of your hand, near your elbow. If it makes the numbness change then you know that is the problem and can ask another doctor (an orthopedist) what exercises or therapy you can do at home for it. Check out www.web.md too.

Numbness in your pinky finger could indicate a pinched nerve in your neck. I am not sure a Chiropractor would be the best answer, but you could give it a try. I am surprised that your doctor did not send you for some follow up tests.
