If you say amnesty explain how that would help this country or if you only want such for selfish reasons(feedinf your kids is selfish..because they don't come from storks)

Don't say an easier way to become a citizen because that is a dual policy with your country of orgin.

Don't even mention racism because that is a tottally craven cop-out

I think the average immigrant wants the same thing- whether they went through legal channels to get here, or hopped a fence/stowed away in a boat and are therefore here illegally. They want an opportunity to make a living- many of the areas they come from simply have no jobs, so rather than starve, they go somewhere where they can find work.

Many flee wars and/or political problems in places like Columbia, southeast Asia or Africa. The fact is, things are far better here making minimum wage than the problems they faced elsewhere.
At least here they have a chance, and that's what most of them want.

Blanket amnesty isn't the answer but there should be some path for people that have lived here, worked, raised families and started businesses, to become legal citizens. Keep in mind that anyone who's born here is American, so there are many parents who might be illegal whose kids are US citizens just like the rest of us.

People who don't have legal status not be given greater priority than people who have been waiting legally, but it can be done- maybe they have to wait a couple of years longer, pay some fines- have special work permits, whatever. Now people who aren't working or have been caught and convicted of crimes should be deported.

The fact is many industries like agriculture and landscaping can't find enough people- they rely on cheap immigrant labor.

Throughout human history people have been on the move in search of a better life.
Your ancestors came here with nothing and got citizenship right away. We come , work hard for many years, pay taxes, and we are STILL not recognized. It's a shame considering US immigration history. Without immigrants this country wouldn't even exist.
As for "most immigrants don't speak English" theme...guess what:not only do most of us speak English, but many of us are highly educated and speak several languages, unlike most Americans.
Let people live.

Wow I guess I could give you some safety for one some of the countries are so corrupt that they don't protect the people that live there. That's what gets to me when people say they should fix their government. How? As far as it being a duel policy not true with some countries. It's extremely hard for EL-Salvadorian people to come here legally from what I've seen because of the violence in their country Americans are afraid to let them in. In Honduras the economy is next to nothing.

Better pay is Undocumented workers come to the US. The y come to work. Without them work would not get done and this country would not run. While the first generation may not integrate the second will be citizens and speak English. The real question is how do undocumented workers hurt Citizens?

gov wants immigrants here because iimigrants are ignorant to our const. and statutes and will work for less. compared to the wage they made wherever as to here they don't mind being a slave because they were better off than before. Its designed to irritate you and anger but when noone does anything about gov. figures you must like it so they let more and more untilYOU have nothing and are paying even more taxes for immigrants and that is taken from us to to support them and validates their expenditure that has now tripled. What have we gotten out of it? more hardship, less jobs and less or no benefits Gov. don't care its not THEM paying for it they just promote the chaos so to pass more statute traps for ya to fall into while an immigrant can play stupid. But hey, keep on voting and watch more of your rights go down the drain.

Well, you need to define 'average'
You also need to state which country - although this is Answers Uk&Ireland, there seem to be many forigners (gasp - illegally?) posting, reading and answering here.

Don't get me wrong - I am against Illegal imigration, I just don't like the way all asylem seekers seem to get stuck with the same lable.

They want to work, a future. I disagree with helping them feed their kids, hell we do that in general with all these women and families that can work , yet they are too lazy to find work and rather live off of tax payers monies
