Several answers are referring a manufactured wood product, but MDF could just as well be Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. Neither answers fits the Food & Drink category though - perhaps you could provide more information that would allow narrowing it down a little.

MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard. I`ts basically sawdust that's been compressed to form a very hard material that doesn`t split like wood and is a cheaper alternative.

MDF is a wood type board product made from wood shavings and sawdust held together with glue and put under huge pressure. The glue makes the dust from this stuff very dangerous so wear a mask when cutting it. Also, don't get it wet, it expands.

Medium density fibreboard, as loved by make over reality tv shows. It is really important to wear a dust mask when cutting it with an electric saw.

Medium Density Fibreboard, very good for finishing as it gives a smooth finish, but its nasty stuff and contains poisons, so should always be covered. There must be details of this out there try wikipedia.

medium density fibre board (mdf)!! Used in diy furniture making, cabinet making etc!!! but i wouldnt recommend cooking with it!! this is a cookery site, isnt it????
