Well, you won't have chicken legs anymore, for one. That seems like it'll be your main benefit right there. You'll also be stronger, the extra muscle helps burn calories, your legs won't get as tired from standing, and you will actually find that working out makes you more energetic as a person in your day-to-day life.

So work out. Do squats (with a light weight at first but getting heavier), get to a gym and use the hip adductor and abductor machines, do calf-raises (stand flat on your feet and then push yourself up on your tip-toes, then go back down. Works best if you are standing with your heels over the a ledge, like stairs. You can also use weight to increase the difficulty), and run! Bicycling helps work your quads a lot, too. I always enjoyed jumping rope as a calf exercise. It's a really popular cardio training tool for fighters, which is why I did it for a time.

Pick something that works for you and go for it! As long as you don't go too hard at the beginning and injure yourself, there are really no negative consequences that can come from it. All that can happen is you'll look better, feel better, and become healthier.

I think it sounds good.

the best benefit is a strong foundation for your body. stronger muscles in the legs will also reduce the stress on your bones.

another benefit is that the leg muscles are large, so, developing them will help you burn more calories per day. i've read that a pound of muscle can burn up to 50 calories per hour.

to get strong legs you MUST incorporate the following two exercises: squats and deadlifts. squats give you a pushing motion which will emphasize your quads while deadlifts will give a pulling motion with an emphasis on the hamstrings. a lot of people underdevelop their hamstrings (and put themselves at a greater risk for injury) by doing too many quad-dominant exercises like squats, leg presses, lunges, and leg extensions, while only doing leg curls for their hamstrings.
